gray partings
I dreamt I was a poet
You dreamt you were a star
And when we both awoke
We said, "There you are"
There was a slump in my shoulders
There was desperation in your voice
And in that one brief moment
We both made our choice
I turned upon my heel
You turned upon your toe
When I saw the door
There was nowhere else to go
Somewhere upon the breeze
As I was walking down the hall
I heard the haunting whisper
Of your ever gentle call
One foot in front of the other
As I leave this sad, lonely place
And as I turned to face the world
A tear fell down my face
